I read Kent Harrington's "The Good Physician" (Dennis McMillan Publications; 269 pages; $35) during the final days of the presidential campaign, with the future of the United States hanging in the balance. It added an extra dimension to this humane, politically charged novel, a book that evokes both courageous hopefulness and profound dread. In large measure, it succeeds as a stunningly effective hybrid: part hothouse melodrama thick with lust and lies and deception and part race-against-time espionage thriller. It's like a stripped-down Tom Clancy novel with Tennessee Williams contributing the backstories.
Kent Harrington confirms his talent again as a novelist. A powerful and original author. Let us be greatful to Editions du Rocher, which in France currently provide publication of this prominent author.
Merci d'avance!
Toutes mes salutations et à bientôt,

Red Jungle (Dennis McMillan, $30) is an ambitious and entertaining book. Set in Guatemala, the story follows an American reporter stationed there to cover Central American politics and economics. Russell Cruz-Price is disillusioned with his career as a journalist and has embarked on a mad quest to recover a fabled Mayan artifact, the Red Jaguar, which he hopes will bring him the riches he so desperately desires. Harrington's book will draw natural comparisons to the work of Graham Greene, particularly The Heart of the Matter and The Quiet American. Those comparisons to one of literature's master craftsmen will be well deserved.
